Shawn Christian Mafield

Shawn Christian Mafield, 38, passed away suddenly on December 9, 2008.

Shawn was a U.S. Navy veteran and served during the Gulf War. He worked as a medic and surgical technician in the Navy and continued his education for many years, specializing in eye surgery. Shawn enjoyed playing the drums and was a talented performer playing in rock bands throughout his life. His other passions were playing golf and riding his custom Ironhorse chopper. Shawn was a kind, generous man and could light up a room and make everyone laugh. His greatest love in life was his daughter, Taylor and he will be truly missed.

Shawn was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ethel Barhart, Robert Thompson, and Juanita Winington.

He is survived by his loving daughter, Taylor Mafield and her mother, Jennifer Brannon; beloved parents, Cynthia Thompson and Rik (Darlene) Mafield; grandparents, Norma and Buck Brownell; brothers, Jordan, Zak and Zane; sisters, Megan and Courtney, and Sierra; uncles, Joe Thompson and Brian (Sherry) Mafield; aunts, Tami Thompson and Tracy Berry; girlfriend, Charlotte Slabaugh; Taylor's grandparents, Ferrell and Joyce Brannon; and numerous, nieces, nephews, cousins and many lifelong friends.

Friends may call 5 until 8 p.m. Monday, December 15, 2008 at the Donovan Funeral Home, 17 Southwest Ave., Tallmadge, OH 44278 (on the Historic Tallmadge Circle). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made for the benefit of Shawn's daughter, Taylor, in care of the funeral home.

I'll never forget the parties, the concerts, Taking off and leaving you standing in a parking lot at 3:00am in East Akron in the snow. "lol" And all the good times we had Shawn. I will see you again someday my friend. You'll be missed dearly....

I raced atv's with Shawn after high school, was the funniest when he was covered in mud. "watch out for the johnson" he used to say. It is a great loss and I will always remember you! See you on the flip side..... blaster's rule!!!

You were my first "boyfriend" ever. In third grade! I remember when the teacher asked me if I liked you (in front of you) I denied it. :) well, I was in the third grade. I wish your family, especially your daughter well.
